Managing Success Programmes Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between MSP Foundation and Practitioner?

The MSP Foundation level introduces the MSP principles, governance themes, and processes that form the basis of the framework. The MSP Practitioner level builds on this by showing you how to apply these in practical scenarios. Together, they prepare you to manage programmes strategically and successfully.

How to pass the MSP practitioner exam?

To pass the MSP Practitioner exam, review the official manual, focus on real-world application, and take advantage of practice questions. Understanding MSP themes and how they apply across the programme lifecycle is essential. Our course provides clear guidance and structured exam preparation.

How much does MSP Foundation cost?

The cost of the MSP Foundation course can vary based on provider, but with e-Careers, your course fee includes tuition, materials, and the exam. This makes our training package highly competitive. Our pricing reflects the high standard of our MSP processes and support.

Is MSP practitioner difficult?

The MSP Practitioner exam requires applied understanding, but with the right training and preparation, it is manageable. Our course equips you with tools to handle complex scenarios and apply your learning effectively. We focus on real-life applications, including managing interdependencies.

What level is MSP practitioner?

The MSP Practitioner course is an advanced qualification designed for professionals who want to apply MSP principles in real programme settings. Although AXELOS and PeopleCert do not formally align MSP to university degree levels, the Practitioner level is widely viewed as comparable to a UK Level 5 or Level 6 qualification. This reflects its professional and management-focused depth, similar to a Foundation Degree or the later stages of a Bachelor’s degree. In contrast, MSP Foundation is typically associated with Level 4 as an entry-level certification.

Does MSP qualification expire?

Yes, the MSP Practitioner certificate must be renewed within 3 calendar years of the issuing date. Practitioners can renew their certificate by taking a re-registration exam that is set to the same standard as the MSP Practitioner exam. This helps keep your knowledge of key management techniques current and credible in the workplace.

What is the difference between a practitioner and a professional?

A Practitioner applies a formal framework, like MSP, in real scenarios, while a professional may work in the field without formal training. The Practitioner certification confirms your applied knowledge and ability to manage programmes effectively. It also proves you can handle risk controls confidently.

What is the starting salary for MSP?

The starting salary for someone holding the MSP certification depends on experience and location. Typically, Junior Programme Managers earn between £40,000 and £50,000. With experience and progression into Programme Manager or Senior Programme Manager roles, salaries commonly rise to £65,000–£90,000, reflecting the ability to lead complex change and deliver sustainable benefits.

What qualifies someone as a practitioner?

To become a certified MSP Practitioner, you must first pass the Foundation exam, then the Practitioner exam. This demonstrates your ability to apply the framework in real-world programme settings. It confirms your readiness to take on leadership responsibilities within programme teams.
