What comes after CeRER?
Once you are qualified and practising as an equity release adviser, many professionals choose to broaden their expertise further. Common next steps include pursuing a Diploma in Financial Advice (DipFA) to move into broader financial planning, or building a specialist later-life lending practice by combining your CeMAP and CeRER qualifications. Some advisers also go on to set up their own mortgage and equity release brokerage after achieving Competent Adviser Status (CAS).
The Certificate in Regulated Equity Release (CeRER) is awarded by LIBF. This Level 3 qualification meets the FCA’s examination standards for providing advice on mortgage products. It is also registered with Ofqual in the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF).
The FCA requires all equity release advisers to hold an appropriate qualification before advising clients. CeRER is on the FCA's approved list, which means that passing your CeRER exams confirms you meet the regulatory standards needed to practise in this area of financial services.
e-Careers is a trusted CeRER training provider. Our courses are aligned with LIBF qualifications and prepare you to sit the LIBF CeRER assessments. Once you pass, LIBF awards you the qualification directly.
If you are enrolling in the standalone CeRER course, yes, we recommend holding CeMAP or an equivalent Level 3 qualification. The CeRER course builds on the mortgage regulation knowledge covered in CeMAP, so having that foundation will help you get the most out of your training. If you do not yet hold CeMAP, our Professional Mortgage Adviser Package covers both qualifications, with no prior requirements needed.
It depends on which course you choose. The standalone CeRER virtual classroom runs over 2 days, followed by independent study before you sit your LIBF exams. The Professional Mortgage Adviser Package covers CeMAP and CeRER across 11 days of live training. [Contact us] if you would like to talk through which option suits your situation.
The CeRER qualification is assessed across two units. Unit 1 is a 50-question multiple-choice exam lasting 1 hour. Unit 2 consists of 3 case studies, each with 10 linked multiple-choice questions, also lasting 1 hour. Both units are set online via remote invigilation through LIBF.
The pass mark for both units is 70%.
All CeRER exams are sat online via remote invigilation through LIBF. A fee is payable directly to LIBF, which covers your exam registration, access to their learning materials, and sitting your assessments. This fee is separate from your e-Careers course fee.
