The NEBOSH Environmental Certificate is a global risk assessment training that provides essential knowledge and skills in environmental management. It’s designed for individuals and organisations looking to understand and improve their management of environmental issues and impact. The course covers pollution control, sustainability, and legal compliance, helping you support or lead effective environmental management systems, including ISO 14001.
The NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate is typically considered a level 3 qualification in the UK's National Qualifications Framework (NQF) or the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). This means it is equivalent to an A-level or advanced diploma-level qualification.
The NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate pass mark is 45 for Unit EMC1 (open book exam), with credit awarded for scores between 65 and 74 and distinction for 75 and above. The pass standard for Unit EMC2 (practical assessment) is outlined in the official NEBOSH guidance.
Some NEBOSH exams, including the NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate (EMC1 unit), are open-book. You can refer to your notes, textbooks, and online resources during the exam. However, your answers must be original, well-structured, and demonstrate practical understanding rather than simply copying information.
The number of questions varies depending on the NEBOSH qualification. For the NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate, the EMC1 open book exam consists of scenario-based questions that test your ability to apply knowledge in real-world situations. The EMC2 practical assessment requires you to conduct a workplace-based environmental risk assessment.
After passing the NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate, you can further your expertise by pursuing the NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management or other NEBOSH courses like the General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety. You can also apply for environmental management, sustainability, or compliance roles, and join professional bodies like IEMA or support ISO 14001 compliance.
The price of a NEBOSH Environmental training depends on several factors, including the learning method and the specific training provider you decide to train with. For exact prices, please check out our NEBOSH course pages.
All NEBOSH certificates are valid for life and have no expiration date. However, NEBOSH Diploma holders in Environmental Management must take a refresher course to stay current.
