Course duration

The AAT Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting is designed to be completed in 12 to 15 months, depending on your study pace and prior knowledge. You'll have 18 months of course access, allowing you to study around your schedule and complete the qualification in your own time.

Exam Format

The AAT Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting is assessed through a series of computer-based exams. You'll complete five assessments — three from the mandatory units and two from optional AAT Level 4 units.

Exam Details

All mandatory units have exam durations lasting 150 minutes. As for the optional units, here are their respective exam durations:

  • Optional Unit 1- Business Tax: 150 mins
  • Optional Unit 2- Personal Tax: 150 mins
  • Optional Unit 3- Audit and Assurance: 150 mins
  • Optional Unit 4- Cash and Financial Management: 120 mins

Once you've completed your exams, the raw marks per exam are converted into a percentage and weighted according to the unit assessment within the qualification, providing an overall grade. Here's the weighted contribution of each exam:

  • Internal Accounting Systems and Control: 20%
  • Optional Unit 1: 15%
  • Optional Unit 2: 15%

You must score at least 70% overall to receive your qualification.

  • Pass: 70–79%
  • Unclassified: 0–69% (or failure to pass one or more assessments)

You can take these exams via remote invigilation or at AAT-approved test centres. To sit the exams, you must become an AAT member, with student membership and exam fees separate from the course price.
